Measurement of Viscoelastic Properties of Condensed Matter using Magnetic Resonance Elastography

چکیده
Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a phase contrast technique that provides a non-invasive means of evaluating the viscoelastic properties of soft condensed matter. This has a profound bio-medical significance as it allows for the virtual palpation of areas of the body usually not accessible to the hands of a medical practitioner, such as the brain. Applications of MRE are not restricted to bio-medical applications, however, the viscoelastic properties of prepackaged food products can also non-invasively be determined. Here we describe the design and use of a modular MRE acoustic actuator that can be used for experiments ranging from the human brain to pre-packaged food products. The unique feature of the used actuator design is its simplicity and flexibility, which allows easy reconfiguration.

High-resolution mechanical imaging of the human brain by three-dimensional multifrequency magnetic resonance elastography at 7T
Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is capable of measuring the viscoelastic properties of brain tissue in vivo. However, MRE is still limited in providing high-resolution maps of mechanical constants. We therefore introduce 3D multifrequency MRE (3DMMRE) at 7T magnetic field strength combined with enhanced multifrequency dual elasto-visco (MDEV) inversion in order to achieve high-resolution ...

Introduction: Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is a non-invasive imaging technique which is capable of quantifying soft tissue elasticity in vivo [1]. Most MRE studies have assumed isotropic mechanical properties although many soft tissues possess anisotropic mechanical properties due to their fibrous structure, for instance skeletal muscle or brain white matter. We propose a technique whi...

Dynamic shear test on simulated phantom can be used to validate magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) measurements. Phantom gel has been usually utilized for the cell culture of cartilage and soft tissue and also been used for mechanical property characterization using imaging systems. The viscoelastic property of the phantom would be important for dynamic experiments and analyses. In this stud...
متن کاملCharacterization of a hyper-viscoelastic phantom mimicking biological soft tissue using an abdominal pneumatic driver with magnetic resonance elastography (MRE).
The purpose of this study was to create a polymer phantom mimicking the mechanical properties of soft tissues using experimental tests and rheological models. Multifrequency Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MMRE) tests were performed on the present phantom with a pneumatic driver to characterize the viscoelastic (μ, η) properties using Voigt, Maxwell, Zener and Springpot models. To optimize the...

The noninvasive measurement of the mechanical properties of brain tissue using magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) has emerged as a promising method for investigating neurological disorders. To date, brain MRE investigations have been limited to reporting global mechanical properties, though quantification of the stiffness of specific structures in the white matter architecture may be valuabl...
